WELCOME TO THE NATIONAL RETROFIT HUB
WELCOME TO THE NATIONAL RETROFIT HUB
The National Retrofit Hub works across the retrofit system to strengthen the conditions and capabilities that support consistent, high‑quality, and equitable retrofit delivery.
We bring together practice, finance, research, policy, delivery and communities to strengthen coordination, build shared evidence, and support action. Our focus is not just increasing activity, but enabling retrofit to be delivered well, locally and equitably, at the scale required to meet climate, health and housing needs.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED.
There is a place for everyone. The NRH is open to anyone who wants to see retrofit done well. You might come to stay informed and connected, or you might want to play a more active role. You can start simply by using our resources or joining an event, or go further and take part in our active, engaged network through one of our groups.
BECOME A PARTNER OR SPONSOR
As a Community Interest Company, we rely on contributions to support our work. Partners and Sponsors support core coordination and specific programmes. This enables independent work focused on strengthening collaboration and improving retrofit delivery across the UK.
JOIN A WORKING GROUP
If you are interested in a specific delivery challenge, you can join one of our working groups. Groups sometimes operate as active task focused sessions and at other times as interest groups. By joining, you receive updates and invitations to workshops or meetings when activity is underway. Participation is flexible.
JOIN A CROSS-CUTTING THEME
Cross-cutting themes focus on issues that sit across multiple working groups. They bring together people with shared interest in these system wide topics. By joining, you receive information and invitations to relevant workshops as they arise.
JOIN THE RETROFIT COMMUNITY OF INDUSTRY
The Retrofit Community of Industry connects professionals and organisations across the retrofit ecosystem who want to contribute their expertise to real, community-led retrofit initiatives.
By joining, you will receive updates and invitations to opportunities where your knowledge or skills could help support live projects. This may include roundtables, workshops, peer learning sessions or site visits.

NRH IN NUMBERS.

Why
RETROFIT MATTERS?
Across the UK, millions of people live in homes that are often cold, damp, or expensive to heat. That affects physical health, mental wellbeing and day to day comfort. It places pressure on household budgets and contributes to avoidable strain on health services. Many buildings also waste energy through poor insulation, outdated heating systems and inadequate ventilation. That drives up emissions and increases reliance on energy infrastructure that is already under stress.
Retrofit is about fixing the underlying causes of cold, damp and energy waste. It involves improving insulation, ventilation and heating systems so homes support health rather than undermine it. At the same time, it reduces emissions and strengthens resilience in the face of climate change.
The way retrofit is designed and delivered matters. Poorly coordinated programmes can overlook those most in need or fail to achieve lasting improvements. When done well, retrofit improves living conditions, reduces long term costs and supports a fair transition.

HOW WE DEFINE RETROFIT.
For us, retrofit means upgrading existing homes, buildings and neighbourhoods so they are healthier, more comfortable and produce fewer emissions. It is about improving performance in everyday life and ensuring changes respond to local context and need.
Retrofit is not simply the installation of measures, it’s about the impact it can deliver for people in neighbourhoods. It requires coordination across policy, finance, skills and delivery to ensure improvements are consistent and equitable.
The National Retrofit Hub works across this system. We bring people together around shared challenges, strengthen the evidence that shapes decisions and support practical action that improves outcomes for people and places.

WHERE WE WORK.
Our work spans the UK. We engage nationally to influence policy and funding, regionally to strengthen coordination and collaboration, and locally to support delivery in place.
We work across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, recognising that retrofit policy and delivery vary across nations. We also work at regional level, connecting partnerships and networks, and at local level, where delivery happens in homes and neighbourhoods.
Retrofit is shaped by national direction but realised locally. Our role is to help align both.
