Enhanced access to building data, organised and accessed through Digital Building Logbooks, could help overcome multiple barriers to retrofit at scale.
DIGITAL BUILDING LOGBOOKS: AN INTRODUCTION TO LOGBOOKS AND RETROFIT
This document gives an overview of what Digital Building Logbooks are, outlines work to date, and explores how the expansion of logbooks, with more detailed building information and renovation plans, could help scale the local delivery of good quality retrofit.
DATA MATRIX
Accompanying this guide is a matrix of the data currently available on buildings across the UK, compiled by NRH Working Group 1 Technical Lead Louis Daillencourt. You can explore who holds what data, how it is accessed and used. Use the buttons at the top to sort and filter the matrix. This is a working database, which we would like to enrich, so please do get in touch if you are aware of any other sources of data on the UK’s buildings.

DIGITAL BUILDING LOGBOOKS WEBINAR
The Digital Building Logbooks Webinar took place on the 5th June 2024. Along with Louis Daillencourt (Novoville) and Nigel Walley (Residential Logbooks Association), we gave an overview of Digital Building Logbooks and how they could unlock good quality retrofit at scale.
During the webinar, we discussed:
What data is already available on the UK’s buildings, and how it can be accessed.
What digital building logbooks are, and the work that has been done to develop these tools to date.
What barriers to good quality retrofit at scale could be overcome by the expansion of logbooks and the roll out of a retrofit plan for every home.
How information created as part of retrofit assessments and improvement plans could be better stored to enable project aggregation, supply chain certainty and better decision-making.
Next steps for the retrofit industry to engage with better, more complete and interoperable building data, to deliver better outcomes.
